This week we are continuing to develop our

reading skills to help us complete comprehension.

WALT summarise what we have read

This week Sheba will be helping us to summarise.

This means we will sum up what we have read and select the key points.

Use the PowerPoint provided and then have a go at the questions.

SPAG-What is a fronted adverbial?

WALT understand and use fronted adverbials.

Watch the short video clip on BBCBitesize and then have a go at the quiz.

An adverbial phrase is a group of words (without a verb)

that tells us when, how or where something is done.

If they are placed at the beginning of a sentence

adverbial phrases are called fronted adverbials.

Have a pen and paper ready to take some notes.

(there is a short quiz at the end)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn/articles/zp937p3

Then complete the three worksheets

1. Spot the adverbial

2. When did it happen?

3. Where did it happen?

  • make decisions and choices;
  • use a range of geographical skills;
  • discuss your opinions on important issues;
  • let your imagination run wild and;

Lesson 1: The Discovery  (Powerpoint is in Teams files section)

Whilst out exploring, you have found an uninhabited, undiscovered island, which you can now claim as your own kingdom!

So where were you sailing when you made this astonishing discovery?

Where in the world would you like your island to be?

Use atlases, globes or interactive maps on the internet, to decide where you’d like your newly discovered island to be.

  • Which sea or ocean does your island lay in?
  • Is it in the Southern or Northern Hemisphere?
  • Which countries and other islands are closest to it?
  • How close?
  • Which continent may claim it?

Now is your chance to design your island.

Topic - Heroes

This week we are learning to create code for a computer game.

Hello boys and girls!

Well done to all of you that have been completing the #HourOfCode.

To continue our coding skills, I would like you to use the programme software "Scratch".

This software will allow you to develop your concepts of coding and event programming (using blocks).

Follow the powerpoint provided to begin to understand how to creat a design and create a game.

Wellbeing

Well done to all the boys and girls that have been continuing to complete the PE daily challenge.

Last week I posted some information’s about the Daily Mile. If you haven’t had a look, there is still time to get involved. Look it up here if you're not sure what it is: https://thedailymile.co.uk/ #DailyMileAtHome

What positive have come from lockdown?

Take a moment to sit down and reflect. Think about all the new skills you have learnt during lockdown, for example helping mum with the cooking or learning how to use the washing machine. You can complete the activity sheet attached / added in Teams or create your own poster/powerpoint.

Message : Hello everyone! Officially it is the beginning of a new half term and this month was going to be my favourite. We had Borfa planned for next week and then Taliesin dance project planned for the week after.

Nonetheless, if it is dancing you want to do, turn the music up loud and get moving! Enjoy the sunshine and continue with plenty of active learning outside. I hope you are doing some planting in the garden and helping them grow. I have plenty of sunflowers planted, but I also have a 4 year old that enjoys pulling the tops off them!

Jump into Teams and check I with your classmates. Stay safe and I hope to see you soon!

Mr. D

Half-term activities!

If you are wanting something to keep you busy over half term, look no further... I have plenty of ideas here for you to try!

-If you have grandparents you are missing, you could write letters. In fact, this could apply to anyone you are missing!

-Make a to do list jar. Write on a piece of paper all the things you would like to do when we get back to normal. Then you can pick something out of the jar and actually do it when that day comes!

-Try and do the daily mile each day - look it up here if you're not sure what it is: https://thedailymile.co.uk/ #DailyMileAtHome

You could enter the RSPB competition.

They want you to create a piece of art inspired by nature – let your imagination run WILD! There are 2 categories to choose from this year – REAL LIFE – entries using the more traditional approach of paints, pastels, acrylics, pens or pencil. And they have a new GO WILD category – for those of you who want to ‘go wild’ in every sense of the word! To enter this category, experiment with textiles, sculpture, recycled and eco-friendly materials, collages – anything goes! Click the link for more details https://www.rspb.org.uk/fun-and-learning/for-kids/rspb-kids-competitions/wild-art/?channel=paidsearch&gclid=CjwKCAjw8J32BRBCEiwApQEKgW9iWBdHB7AjOLPySlmqFPaAoQ99AMliSCcmBFayJUNzvgeCcAXziRoCgNEQAvD_BwE

-Create a time capsule for your family. This is such a nice idea to try! Create a family time capsule and include photos, letters, lists of your favourite things, small items, and any other things that you would like to rediscover after a few years. Place all of them in a box, seal it, and write on it the date when you’ll be allowed to open it.

-Family talent show! Each member of the family showcases their talent and you vote for the best performer!

-Fancy doing some cooking, create a healthy wrap pizza, brownie in a mug, I would love to see some pictures.

Remember to speak clearly about who your hero is and what makes them so special. Use our Teams platform to speak to the class about their heroes. Maybe your hero is a family member, nurse, doctor, delivery person, local shop assistant or someone else.

Got some extra time? Try this :

Who is your Hero? Is it someone in the media? Is it a sports star? Someone who changed history, for example Martin Luther King Jr? Is it a teacher? Is it someone that lives on your street or lives in your house?

Write a leaflet or create a Powerpoint using Hwb Office 365 about what is needed to become a hero.

Possible sub headings

* Introduction – what makes someone a hero?

* Exercises you must be able to complete

* The right food to eat to become a hero

Topic - Heroes

This week we are learning to get creative.

Watch the video on: https://hwb.gov.wales/HwbHeroes

I thought it would be a lovely idea to be part of this! To help spread to message and become Hwb Heroes.

I would like you to become the dance teacher create a dance or animation to your favourite song. Write down the moves and record yourself. As a class we can share them and hopefully learn each other.

There is a Flipgrid area for this. Access Teams to gain access. I have set this as an 'assignment' in Teams.

Got some extra time? Try this :

Riley the Rhino needs a super hero outfit. We would like you to design a logo. The logo needs to be labelled to help other understand what it represents.

You could draw this and send a photo using our SeeSaw App / Microsoft Teams.

Have a go at : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ9q4U2P3ig&feature=youtu.be

Then I would like you to have a go at creating your own pattern! Send a video clip I would love to have a go!

I love this video - Banana Banana Meatball! (You will know what I mean if you watch it!)

Class Message:

Bore da pawb! Week 2 of home learning and lots of you have jumped into our Teams section. Well done! We will be making this our virtual classroom for the term and it is a truly amazing way for Y5/6 to share ideas and assignments. Flipgrid is already integrated and we can use this for our oracy tasks. This has been so easy to use this year and I know that you can continue to record your awesome videos.

My recommended website this week is www.oxfordowl.co.uk. This site has hundreds of amazing books that you can begin to read after signing up. It is free to use and if you ever want to have more fiction and non-fiction books to read, this is your place! If the weather turns a bit horrible this week, find a quiet place and get your head into an e-book.

Stay safe! Record your videos! Send in your learning via Teams (files section).

Have fun! Mr. D

* STAR OF THE WEEK FOR 24th APRIL *
